For the Oakdale High School girls tennis team and one Lady Mustang golfer, this past week saw the end of the road for their fall 2023 campaigns.

In playoff action, Oakdale’s tennis team lost to El Capitan 5-4 on Wednesday, Nov. 1. This was the opening round of the 2023 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 girls playoffs. The Mustangs were the fourth seed and hosted the fifth seeded Gauchos. And while 2023 may have ended with an early playoff exit for Oakdale, the team did put together a memorable season. They went undefeated in Valley Oak League play and won their first VOL team title in over a decade.

Meanwhile, one female golfer advanced to the 2023 Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet, Hannah Herschbach. She competed as an individual and shot an 86 on the day. The Masters event was hosted at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

“Competing at the CIF Masters Tournament is quite an accomplishment and Hannah had a great season, leading the Mustangs to a VOL championship and was named VOL Most Valuable Player,” said Mustangs golf coach Jeremy Fields. “She is our team leader and I know she is going to continue to work on her golf game and come back even stronger next year.”

The top four individuals from the Masters advanced to the NorCals. They were Erica Villegas of Vacaville (69), Hannah Stouder of Christian Brothers (70), Esther Sheu of El Capitan (70) and Taylor Baker of Rio Americano (71).
