Oakdale High School’s girls varsity basketball team played their first six games on the road. The lengthy road trip had its ups and downs but the team managed to finish strong as they defeated Tracy 52-46 on Tuesday, Nov. 27, but fell to Livingston 53-43 on Thursday, Nov. 29. Oakdale returned home on Saturday, Dec. 1 when they defeated Downey 61-35.
Oakdale built up a 10 point lead at halftime (30-20) and never looked back in the Saturday contest. Oakdale held the visiting Knights to just 15 second half points in the win. The Lady Mustangs hosted Hilmar on Tuesday, Dec. 4 following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will host Summerville on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and will be on the road Saturday, Dec. 8 to take on Atwater. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The junior varsity team had a pair of games this week, and split the two non-league contests. On Thursday, Nov. 29 the girls defeated Livingston 39-30 on the road. Oakdale found themselves in a six point deficit at halftime but managed to rally for the road win. The JV girls then lost on Saturday, Dec. 1 to Downey 37-33 in their home opener. On Tuesday, Dec. 4 the girls hosted Hilmar. Thursday evening the girls will host Summerville with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Their week concludes on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Waterford for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff.
The freshman girls defeated Waterford on Wednesday, Nov. 28 53-11 and followed up with a 48-7 home win over Downey in their two games this week. Oakdale’s freshmen have a slightly different schedule than the junior varsity and varsity team. This week the frosh girls hosted Livingston on Tuesday, Dec. 4 and will travel to Hilmar to take on the Yellowjackets on Wednesday, Dec. 5 with a 4 p.m. tipoff time. The girls wrap up their week at Waterford on Saturday morning with an 11 a.m. tipoff time.
