Girls Water Polo Dives Into Tournament Action

The Oakdale High School girls water polo team’s season got underway this past weekend as the girls headed south to Clovis for the Central Valley Showdown. In their three games Oakdale went 1-2 (as of The Leader’s holiday press time).

On Friday, Aug. 31 the girls took on Garces High School of Bakersfield in the opening round. Oakdale fell short 5-4. Camryn O’Neal had 14 saves for Oakdale. Scoring the goals for the Lady Mustangs were Bethany Metcalfe, Meagan Humphrey, Danni Bench and Neesa DeLeon.

Later that day, Oakdale took on Righetti High School and fell 12-3. O’Neal had 17 saves in the contest and goals were scored by Hannah Lee and Bethany Metcalfe scored two goals in the loss. Saturday morning Oakdale bounced back with an 8-5 victory over Whitney. No stats for that game were available as of press time.

This week Oakdale was scheduled to host Rio Americano on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and then will hit the road for a trio of games starting on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Napa to take on Vintage High School at 4 p.m.

The Oakdale High School boys’ water polo begins their season on Wednesday, Sept. 5, also with a 4 p.m. start scheduled at Vintage High School.
