School has resumed at Oakdale High School and with that, the fall sports season has arrived for the Mustang squads. Fall is a busy time of year on campus and it has not taken long for the Mustang athletes to return to action. A few new things to follow this season include the arrival of two new member schools for the Valley Oak League. Patterson and Mountain House are in, and Kimball is out. This fall there are seven sports taking center stage, including the inaugural season of flag football for girls.
The flag football season begins on Aug. 27 with a preseason game at Downey High School at 6 p.m. The regular season consists of a dozen games. They will take on all six Valley Oak League opponents in a home-and-away series. Games will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall. Their opening VOL contest is scheduled for Sept. 10 in a home game against Manteca at 7 p.m. Their season ends Oct. 24 against Sierra. Leading the varsity team for the inaugural season is Christina Scott with Grace Fernandes serving as assistant.
This Friday night, the Mustang football program heads to Tracy High School for a scrimmage. The busy preseason schedule continues when they travel up the hill to face Sonora on Aug. 23. The first home game for the Mustangs will be Aug. 30 when they welcome Galena of Reno. Oakdale opens the regular season on Friday, Sept. 20 when they host Mountain House for Mini Mustangs night. Homecoming 2024 is scheduled for Oct. 11 against Patterson.
Girls volleyball hosts Ripon High School in a scrimmage on Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. Their Valley Oak League season begins with a home contest on Sept. 10 at 6:15 p.m. Senior night is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22 against Manteca.
Water polo teams hit the pool with their preseason opener on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Pitman High School at 3:30 p.m. League opener will be Monday, Sept. 9 against East Union in Oakdale with a start time of 3:30 p.m. Their regular season finale is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28 at Sonora High School.
Cross country will be off and running on Saturday, Aug. 24 in Atwater for the Screamin Scott Showcase. Their season will consist of eight regular season meets. Nov. 2 is the CIF Sub-Section Meet at Frogtown. CIF Section Finals are scheduled for Nov. 9 in Folsom and the CIF State Championship will be held in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Girls golf takes the course on Aug. 26 in Turlock for the Yellowjacket Invite. Their Valley Oak League season begins on Aug. 29 at Manteca Park to face Manteca. The VOL Championship has yet to be determined. Postseason play is scheduled for Oct. 28 for the Division III Playoffs with the site to be determined.
The Lady Mustang tennis team begins play on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Gregori and their first home match will be the regular season opener, Thursday, Sept. 10. Grant Miller returns to coach the team.
