Cross Country Team Has Strong Showing In Tracy

Oakdale High School’s cross country team traveled to Tracy for the annual Jaguar Invitational at Eagal Lakes on Thursday, Aug. 29. The freshman boys ran just over two miles and placed fourth overall. Caleb Cavanaugh placed third overall with a time of 13:41. Nathan Luca placed ninth overall at 13:52. The freshman girls also ran 2.1 miles and had two top 10 finishers. Kassidy Fimura placed second overall at 15:52 and Karina Verduzco placed eighth at 16:34.

Simon Appel placed first overall for the sophomore boys as he finished his 2.1 mile run in 12:41. As a team the boys finished in second place. The junior varsity girls placed second overall and were led by Julianna Forkner as she placed first overall in 16:16. It was a 2.1 mile course. The junior varsity boys had one top 15 finisher as Collin Rehling placed 12th overall at 15:18.

The varsity girls took the course and ran five kilometers. Oakdale placed second as a team. Both Kayden Legan and Haleigh Humble crossed the finish line at 22:53 to place third and fourth overall. As for the varsity boys, it was a 14th place team finish. Branden Martinez was a notable performer for the team at 20:30 to finish in the top 15.

Oakdale is off until Sept. 14 when they will run at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Ceres.
