After an earlier postponement, the popular Catfish Derby event has now been set for Saturday, Aug. 27 at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton.

A total of 1,500 pounds of catfish is being planted in preparation for the derby, which will begin at 6:15 a.m. on Aug. 27. The last weigh in will be at 12:30 p.m.

The derby at Oak Grove’s 10-acre lake was postponed earlier this summer for a bank restoration project. The lake will reopen to fishing during the derby.

Presented by San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation and the Delta Fly Fishers, the Catfish Derby is open to everyone, with prizes awarded in youth and adult categories. Kids age 15 years and younger fish for free. There is no registration fee, however, a $5 fishing permit fee and valid CA fishing license are required for those 16 years of age or over. A $6 cash vehicle-parking fee will also apply.

All State Fish and Game laws apply. Participants must supply their own fishing equipment.
