Basketball Teams Tip Off Preseason Campaigns

Oakdale High School basketball tipped off this past week for both the boys and the girls teams. All six teams hit the hardwood in preseason action. Here is a glance at each of the team’s performances.

For the Lady Mustangs, the teams took on Enochs in their lone game of the holiday week. On Wednesday, Nov. 21 the girls traveled to Modesto for the road contest. The varsity girls fell to Enochs 66-39 despite a near triple double by Grace Higle. Higle scored 21 points, added 13 rebounds and had seven steals in the contest. For the junior varsity it was a 52-32 road loss. Alexia Martin had 12 points and five rebounds and Madison Jones added six points and pulled down eight rebounds. Bailey Sexton connected on two three-point shots for her six points. Oakdale committed 26 turnovers in the loss. In freshmen action, the first year players fell 38-18. Hannah Beth Norman and Ruby Fink each scored four points.

This week the girls are on the road with three games starting with a game at Tracy that took place on Tuesday, Nov. 27 following The Leader’s press time. Wednesday, the freshman girls are scheduled to take on Waterford with a tipoff time of 4 p.m. Thursday, the junior varsity and varsity girls hit the road to take on Livingston. Tipoff for junior varsity is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with varsity to follow. Saturday, Dec. 1 all three teams make their home debut when they take on Downey. Tipoff for freshmen is scheduled for 11 a.m., junior varsity 12:30 p.m. and varsity at 2 p.m.

Oakdale’s varsity boys played a trio of games this past week. Monday, Nov. 19 the boys defeated Calaveras 60-58. Jonah Norman and Kobe Nunes each scored 18 points in the win. On Wednesday, Nov. 21 the varsity boys defeated Pacheco on the road 71-49 where John Foreman scored a game high 23 points in the win. Oakdale’s high scoring offense continued when they defeated Livingston 70-65 at home. Foreman scored a game high 25 points. In junior varsity action the boys played two games and won both of them. The JV Mustangs started their week with a 69-26 road win over Pacheco as Jason Rawe had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kaleb McDonald added 11 points and seven assists. As a team Oakdale dished out 20 assists and only turned the ball over 10 times. On Friday the boys defeated Livermore 50-34 where Rawe led the team with 14 points and 11 rebounds. No freshmen stats or scores were reported to The Leader by press time.

This week all three levels hit the court with a home game Wednesday, Nov. 28 against Tokay. Freshmen tip off at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and varsity is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 1 the boys travel to Escalon. Freshmen tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m., with junior varsity and varsity to follow.
