Knights Ferry News
KF Nastasia Sweet mug

Many of you know me as Tasha Martinelli or Tasha Sweet, youngest of Bill and Kay Martinelli’s daughters, mother to Kaeli and Deagan, and serial small-town volunteer along with my husband, Jason. But you may not know my real name is Nastasia. Don’t worry if you can’t spell it correctly, my mom misspelled my name for 16 years! So please don’t be surprised when you see the Knights Ferry News by Nastasia Sweet, it’s just little old me.

The doors at Knights Ferry School are beautiful works of art thanks to Kim McCarthy and volunteers. The volunteers chose the design they painted on each door. Kids also helped paint the blacktop artwork. The school looks very inviting for the new school year!

Deagan Sweet went to Boy Scout Camp at Camp John Mensinger. His bag of snacks was the first bear casualty stolen from the bear box on the first night. When we went to pick him up at the end of the week, we saw a bear about 25 yards away. Way too close for me!

The MAC meeting was well attended with a representative from County Supervisor Kristin Olsen’s office, both the current and the future Stanislaus Community Development & Empowerment Manager, two members of the Oakdale Rural Board, Deputy Chief of Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, a Sheriff, and a California Highway Patrol officer. Members of the MAC board and community members had numerous questions regarding the increase in crime and vandalism, and the recent fire incident in Knights Ferry. The take away from the meeting for community members was to take action by calling in suspicious activity, parking violators, and attend fire board meetings. The next ORB is meeting Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Community Club.

Crime, speeding, and vandalism has increased in our town. Be proactive by retrieving mail every day, using appropriate locks, pulling over for dangerous vehicles, and reporting any suspicious activity! Write these numbers down: non-emergency dispatch (209) 522-2458 and Sheriff Mark Frink (209) 652-0601. If we don’t call, they don’t know there is a problem.
