Dear Editor,

This year’s general election to be held on November 4, will have a ballot measure extremely important to the voters in the city of Oakdale. It is called “MEASURE Y”.

In November of 2011 the voters of Oakdale approved a ½ cent sales tax increase that was to last for three years. This tax undoubtedly kept the City out of bankruptcy. While we have seen some improvement in the economy over the last year it has not been enough to keep the city’s head above water.

Measure “Y” is NOT an additional tax only a continuance of the ballot measure passed in 2011. Your sales tax will not increase.

Without the passage of Measure Y the city will lose over $ 1.6 million dollars in operating income. What does this mean? The City will be forced to lay off public safety officers, close the senior center, and the community center, and almost certainly will become insolvent.

Measure Y is supported by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce, Oakdale Saddle Club, Operating Engineers, both the Fire and Police Associations and numerous other local organizations.

Please join me in voting YES on MEASURE Y.
