Dear Editor,

I would like to commend the Mayor and City Council for their demonstration of support for Neighborhood Watch and other neighborhood groups in Oakdale by their recent unanimous decision to amend the city code with a special provision that allows neighborhood groups holding garage sales as a joint effort to have reduced city permit fees for every participating family. Neighborhood garage sales bring neighbors together and bring shoppers to Oakdale, building stronger neighborhoods and supporting our local businesses. Additionally, we all owe thanks to Linda Johanson, Watch Captain of the Burchell Hill Neighborhood Watch, for her efforts to communicate the value of such an amendment to the Council at a recent City Council Meeting. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we are looking forward to another successful Burchell Hill Annual Garage Sale on May 1st.
