Wilbur Carlton Pooley, 95, died Monday, June 18.
He was born on May 28, 1917 in Sonora to William James Pooley and Matilda Rosasco Pooley.
He attended Modesto Junior College where he met Audrey Cox who later became his wife.
They were married for 62 years. He went on to graduate from UC Berkeley and the Officer’s Training School at Columbia University.
He served four years in the Navy as a PT Boat Commander. Upon leaving the service he began his lifelong career as a cattle rancher.
Mr. Pooley was a resident of Oakdale since 1946.
For many years, he was active in the Oakdale Country Club.
He and his wife traveled to many parts of the world together.
He is survived by his daughter, Katheryn Pooley (Ralph) Lachman; daughter-in-law, Donna Pooley; brother, Harry Pooley; four grandchildren, Randy and Laura Lachman, Megan Pooley Gaines and Ethan Pooley; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Gaines and Oliver Pooley; and two nieces, Louise Pooley Sanders and Jane Pooley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; and son, Michael John Pooley.
Remembrances may be made in his memory to Community Hospice or to Oak Valley Hospital.
