Sarah Jean Tanis, 78, died Wednesday, March 13.

She was born in Dutton, Mich. to William and Jenny Dykhuis.

She loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord by giving of herself in various churches with her husband in Iowa, Colorado, New Jersey, and California.

In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked in the field of education as a teacher.

Mrs. Tanis enjoyed being part of Oakdale’s garden club for many years. Her other hobbies included reading, baking and bird watching.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Leverne K. Tanis; children, Evert (Tammy) Tanis, Arthur (Anna) Tanis, Pearl (Bernard) Prins, Michael (Barbara) Tanis, Lauren (Michelle) Tanis, and Timothy (Susan) Tanis; brother, Tom Dykhuis; sisters, Marie Tanis, Alida Blauwkamp; and 18 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Arthur Dykhuis and James Dykhuis.

A viewing will be at 9 a.m. and a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20 at the Oakdale Community Christian Reformed Church, 131 West F St., Oakdale. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, at the corner of North Sierra and A Street. A luncheon will be served at the church following the services.
