Michael Selby Alton, 73, died Friday, Jan. 3 at Oak Valley Hospital, Oakdale.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lived in Livermore for 31 years, in Sequim, Wash. for 15 years, and Oakdale for a year-and-a-half.

Mr. Alton worked in computer security for the engineering department at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and was also a stockbroker in Sequim, Wash.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 40 years. He loved to be on his fishing boat on the Delta waters and the ocean outside of San Francisco Bay. He rescued numerous boxer dogs over the years and loved spending time with them, his loving family, and all the beloved grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Alton of Oakdale; children, Craig Alton of Leesville, Dawn Alton, Rick Alton, both of Eureka, Julie Long of Santa Cruz, Roy Alton of Modesto, Blaine Alton of Livermore; stepchildren, Jim Childs of Eureka, Sherry Childs of Buena Vista, Colo., Wayne Childs of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Raymond and Viola Edith (Selby) Alton.

Interment will be cremation at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.
