Merlene Marie Chasteen – born March 1, 1926 – went to be with the Lord and celebrate her Heavenly home on July 24, 2015.
She was a giving person on earth until her beginning in Heaven. We celebrated her 89th birthday before her Home Going Celebration. She was a true example of the gift that never stops giving! We love you and your physical presence will be missed. I welcome your spiritual presence with open spiritual arms!
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Melvin Chasteen; three of her four children, Jean Eide-Jones of Austin Texas, Susan Miller of Oakley, California, and Daniel Chasteen of Escalon, California along with five granddaughters, two of which took care of her until her going to be with the Lord; and three grandsons, 10 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was the second oldest of seven children of which only one has preceded her in death as well as her son Donald Eide. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Escalon.
Born in Brownwood, Texas she moved to California and worked at Owens Illinois Glass Company for many years before working at Weight Watchers as a lecturer for 17 years until she retired. Merlene and her husband, Melvin, travelled throughout the United States in their retirement years. She will always be remembered for her hospitality, never meeting a stranger, and most of all being a great mother, sister, wife, and grandmother. A great example of faith and loyalty. She will be dearly missed until we meet again.
A public viewing will be on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from noon to 3 p.m. at Allen’s Mortuary, followed by the Funeral Service to be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Allen’s Mortuary in Turlock. Allen’s Mortuary is located at 247 North Broadway, Turlock.
