Maxine Katherine Smith, 96, of Tranquility Living in Oakdale passed away peacefully at Community Hospice of Hughson.

Maxine and her husband James Smith owned and operated the Oakdale Soda Works which later became the Mission Orange Bottling Company on Fifth Street. She was well known for her love of baking and serving others her delicious homemade foods. She was also an active volunteer and raised large sums of money for the various organizations she was affiliated with.

She is survived by her children James (Joyce) of Oakdale, David (Joanne) of Everett, WA, Dennis (Denice) of Pleasureville, KY and Mary Louise Ardito (James) of Pomona; as well as numerous family members including grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith.

A celebration of life will be held at Escalon First Baptist Church at 1511 Catherine Way, in Escalon on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Rick Williams officiating.
