Mary B. Waddell, 94, died on Monday, April 15 in Modesto.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1918 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Charles and Mary Mathews. She was one of seven children and has been a resident of Escalon for the past 39 years.
She met and married her husband, Phil Waddell and together they owned two cafés in California. Later Mrs. Waddell worked as a cafeteria manager for Shell Lab, Blue Diamond and Riverbank Ammunition Plant. She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan. She also devoted much of her time to the Catholic Church.
Above all, Mary loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Joan Witt-Sturgeon of Riverbank, Sylvia Blan (John) of New Mexico, Phyllis Reeves (Dan) of Riverbank, Phillip Waddell (Donna) of Friant, CA and Lela Holland (Stan) of Brooks, CA; nine great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Phil Waddell; her son Phil F. Waddell (Carol) as well as her siblings, Barbara Dickinson, Emma Mathews, Dorothy Cockerham, Judy Hargens, Leslie Mathews and Donald Mathews.
Visitation was Monday, April 22 at Franklin & Downs McHenry Chapel. Mass was Tuesday, April 23 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank.
