Martha S. Richter, 90, of Oakdale died Wednesday, Feb. 27 at home with her family at her side.

She was born in Calgary, Canada, the daughter of Jack and Oda Walker. She grew up in Southern California where she met and fell in love with her husband Edwin. They were married for 62 years.

During World War II, she was Rosie the Riveter, where she worked on the assembly line building the wings of Bombers.

Mrs. Richter was involved with Leitch Colony Social Club, Knit & Chat, Senior & Friends, and a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, daily word scramble, and spending time with her family.

She had a very loving heart. She had a uniquely sweet soul; she could notice the finest qualities in an individual that others may have not appreciated. She was fascinated by learning: about the world, historical facts, and the intricacies that every person offers to this world.

Everyone who knew her also experienced her humor and quick-witted aspects of her nature, which she had to be after raising four feisty boys, and one precious girl who was her other pea in the pod. She was a loving grandmother and all her grandchildren were her pride and joy

She and her husband’s most precious memories were time spent along the ocean and big Richter gatherings.

She is survived by her sons, Ron (Linda) of Modesto, Roger (Pat) of Ripon, Andrew (Cheryl) of Waldron, Ark., Anthony (Genetta) of Oakdale; daughter, Mary of Oakdale; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Richter; parents, Jack and Oda Walker; and brother, John Walker.

A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 8 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Oakdale.

Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
