Mamie Leona Gurney, 90, died Wednesday, Oct. 6 at her Oakdale home of natural causes.
She was born in Vernon County, Missouri and moved to San Diego to live with her sister Marie in 1937 at age 17. There, she met a young Marine, Charles E.R. ‘Bill’ Gurney, who she married in 1942.
She loved her home, family and friends. She enjoyed embroidery and quilting, creating beautiful quilts for her family over the years.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Mark) Schneringer of Lake Tulloch, Shirley (Bill) Watson of Oakdale, Charles ‘Skip’ (Chris) Gurney of Half Moon Bay, Steven (Terry) Gurney of Modesto; sister, Helen Dahmer of Nevada, MO; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gurney; granddaughter, Tami Watson; sisters, Nina Holloway, Marie Turner; and parents, Charles and Eva Tylar.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.
