Lila “Lee” DePriest Forbes, 92, died Monday, Feb. 18 in Turlock.

She was born in Memphis, Tenn. to Frank DePriest and Ethel Harwell DePriest.

She married Floyd L. Forbes on Feb. 3, 1941 in Muscatine, Iowa. They lived in Oakdale for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Forbes worked for Hershey’s in Oakdale and also for the Stanislaus County motor pool, retiring in 1998.

When her husband was the Oakdale Chief of Police, she volunteered as the “matron” and would escort female detainees, as male officers were not allowed to do so.

She loved to cook, and before her husband died, the family took trips every weekend with their trailer to the Strawberry and Pinecrest areas.

She is survived by her son, Frankie Lee Forbes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd L. Forbes in 1973.

A service was held Feb. 26 at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
