Leanna Mae (Hinz) Sooy, 74, died Friday, Aug. 13 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Modesto and raised in Knights Ferry before settling in Oakdale.

She met her husband Robert Sooy 18 years ago and they have been married for eight of those years.

Mrs. Sooy cherished the moments she had with her family. She took pride in her plants and her beautiful back yard, as well as her cockatiels that she raised as a hobby.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Sooy of Oakdale; her children, Donald (Jutta) Peterson of Sonora, Sondra (Gene) Ott of Madera, Carla (Matt) Doshas of Knights Ferry, Joseph Hinz of Modesto; sisters, Bessie Siefried, Mary Napier, Ida Levine; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Knights Ferry.
