Layton Lloyd Miles, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 28.

He was born in Chicago, Ill. and was the adored son of Leslie and Myrtle Miles. He lived in Chicago, Wisconsin, Vermont, and San Jose before calling Oakdale his home for nearly 25 years.

Mr. Miles was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy.

He proudly worked for Allis-Chalmers in Wisconsin. He was a dedicated employee with IBM for over 25 years and considered IBM an exemplary company.

He loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He was a loving husband and father and wonderful grandfather. He also treasured and appreciated close friends who touched his life and he considered them family.

He was exceptionally talented as a woodcrafter, machinist, and all-around handyman. He was a proud patriot and was a passionately involved citizen of every community in which he lived. He loved flying and sailing and enjoyed a life full of travels to many places around the world.

He led a faithful and virtuous life and touched many with his kindness, generosity, and good humor. He will be dearly missed.

He had many family members throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, and California.

Survivors include his children, Jeffrey Michael Miles of Manteca, Gordon Robert Miles of Oakdale, Laura Lee Barnett of Redding, David Bruce Miles of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Danielle, Tanya, Vienna, Gracie, Brett, Ava, and Bella.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Jane Miles; parents, Leslie and Myrtle Miles; and sister, Mary.
