Joseph Brett Warren, 26 of New York, NY died Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

Born in Hanford, CA on July 9, 1988 to parents Tom and Shellie Warren, he also lived with his family in Springfield, OR and Ames, OK before moving to Oakdale in 2000. Warren graduated from Oakdale High School in 2007 where he was active in soccer, cross country, drama, jazz band and Academic Decathlon. He was very active in Boy Scouts and Venture Crew while living in Oakdale, where he held numerous leadership positions. Warren was also a member of Oakdale Christian Church and the Regional Youth Council.

In 2012 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was accepted into an elite division of Naval service that would prepare him for a career in Nuclear Propulsion. After Basic Training in Great Lakes, IL he entered “A” School and Power School in Goose Greek, South Carolina. He graduated in October 2013 and obtained the rank of Machinists’ Mate (Nuclear) 3rd Class. At the time of his death he was in the last phase of advanced training to maintain and repair nuclear powered engines and was stationed in Ballston Spa, New York. MM(N)3 Warren was proud to be a member of the US Navy, where he had already received a commendation for his exceptional service.

He was an avid hiker and backpacker. He will be remembered as a favorite Christian camp counselor, competitive video gamer, trustworthy friend and genuinely humble and caring individual.

Survivors include his parents Tom and Shellie Warren; sister and best friend, Kelsey Warren; grandmother, Lois Warren; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Graveside committal service with military honors will be conducted on Saturday, Aug.2 at 1:30 p.m. at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, 701 E. J St., Oakdale. A memorial service will follow at Oakdale Christian Church, 330 Maxwell Ave., Oakdale at 3 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 W. F St., Oakdale.
