John Jess Ramos, also known as “DeDe,” 77, of Riverbank, Ca died Friday, August 25, 2017, in Modesto, Ca following a battle with COPD.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 31, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F St. Oakdale, Ca. The Rosary will be Thursday, August 31, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F St. Oakdale, Ca. The Mass will be Friday, September 1, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive Ave., Oakdale, Ca. The Burial will be Friday, September 1, 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery 1141 Scenic Dr., Modesto, Ca. A reception will follow the burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive Ave., Oakdale, Ca.
John was born on December 26, 1940, in Newark Ca. He grew up in the east bay, and Modesto and graduated from Modesto High School in 1958. He married Anita Baker of Riverbank in Reno, Nevada on November 19, 1960. John served in the Army in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart.
He lived in Riverbank, CA for over 50 years and retired from Sharpe Army Depot in 2005. In his retirement, he enjoyed participating in the McHenry Bowl Veterans League and the Nifty Fifty exercise group.
He is survived by his wife Anita of 57 years, daughter Traci of San Francisco, Ca, brother Tony Ramos of Oakland, Ca, brother Gilbert Ramos of Mandeville, La, brother Frank Trejo of Vallejo, Ca, and Carmen Saliaz of Fremont, Ca. John was preceded in death by his parents John M. and Alejandría Ramos and his sister Elvera Julia Hurtado.
