Helen L. Wood, 96, died peacefully Thursday, May 7 at her longtime home in Oakdale.
She was a native of Nebraska and had lived in Oakdale since 1927. She graduated from Oakdale High School in 1930.
Mrs. Wood was active in many social and civic groups. She was a member of Oakdale City Council and Planning Commission for 14 years. She wrote for The Oakdale Leader in the 1980s.
She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Oakdale.
She is survived by her grandsons, Don of Warren, MI, and John of Modesto; great-grandson, Ryan of Turlock; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, local insurance broker Frosty Wood; and two sons, Donald and Edwin.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 at Community United Methodist Church, Oakdale.
