Harold Pope K

Harold Pope went to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday, October 31, 2016.  He is survived by June, his loving wife of 65 years, daughters, Sandy Mercer and Barbara Aker, son Keith Pope, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter Cheryl Hayes.
“Mr. Pope” dedicated over 47 years to teaching, coaching and mentoring the youth of Valley Home, California. He coached many sports during his 47 years and served as principal without giving up his classroom. Once retired, he continued to coach and mentor at the school.
Mr. Pope’s dedication to building confidence in the children whose lives he touched was honored by the Valley Home Joint School District and California Junior Relays. The “Harold Pope School” (kindergarten through eighth grade) and “Harold Pope California Junior Relays” were named in his honor.
He leaves behind a legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
Arrangements for Harold have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deegan Chapel in Escalon. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at Modesto Covenant Church. Donations in Harold’s name may be made to Community Hospice or Modesto Covenant Church.
