Gertrude Betty Martin
0406 Obit-G Martin

Gertrude ‘Betty’ Martin, 96, died Monday, March 14 after a long period of declining health.

She grew up in Oakdale, the daughter of Edward D. and Louise Heron. She graduated from Oakdale High School, class of 1931. She later graduated from UC Berkeley in 1935. She married her husband Jack soon after.

Mrs. Martin and her husband had the opportunity to live in The Hague and Saudi Arabia, and to travel the world when Jack embarked on a career with ARAMCO (Arabian American Oil Company) following his service during World War II as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. Mrs. Martin particularly enjoyed that period of their lives as she was required to help her husband host and entertain corporate and government officials from around the world.

After retirement, the couple returned to Oakdale, where she enjoyed renewing old friendships, gardening, golf, bridge, Cultis Club, and more travels with her husband and friends.

She and her husband moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek in 1990, where they enjoyed new friends and activities.

She will be missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail Martin Reed of Danville; grandson, ‘Jay’ Martin Reed at CSU Chico; nephews, Roger, David and Philip Schrimp, John Heron; and niece, Elinor Heron Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Martin.
