Erlene Johnson Schoech, 90, died Sunday, July 12 at Hospice House in Stockton.
She was born in Arkansas. She grew up in Manteca and Oakdale, the youngest daughter of nine children to Charles and Julia Looper.
She married Mel Johnson of Modesto where they made their home. She and her husband were constant partners. They had one son.
She worked for the phone company at the Yuma Air Base while her husband was a navigator and assisted him in his role as City Engineer for Modesto.
She was very active in Phi Epsilon Phi Sorority.
After her husband’s death, she married J. Wayne Schoech. They traveled and entertained together for his work with Kaiser Cement and Gypsum. After his death, she remained in Modesto, moving to Stockton seven years ago.
The family expresses their gratitude to Whispering Hope Care Center of Stockton for the care she received in her last years. The family thanks the staff of Hospice House in Stockton for their comfort and care.
She is survived by her son, Perry Johnson of Stockton; and brother, Don Looper of Roseville.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 at 3802 West Benjamin Holt Dr., North Shore Club House in Stockton. Private burial.
