Carey was born to Annette and Leon Penrod in Fullerton, CA. He loved all things outdoors-especially fishing. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He earned his Eagle Scout at 13 years old and after spending his undergrad at BYU was called to serve a mission in Chile. He married Fawn Henderson in the LA Temple in 1984.
Carey always wanted to be a dentist. He graduated from UCLA, started practicing in Crescent City, then relocated to Oakdale when he purchased his first practice from Dr Bob Hamer and eyed that Stanislaus River. In 2000 the Penrods moved back to Orange County where he practiced before retiring in 2019 after his diagnosis of Severe Aplastic Anemia. Wherever the Penrods located they enriched the lives of those in their community. Carey leaves behind Fawn his wife of 36 years (whom he loved more than anything--even fishing!), his six children: Christi (Jim Higham), Jeremy (Sierra), Annie (Russ Walker), Erin (Dave Rackham), Emma (Nick Bradford), Corrine (David Sexton), 11 grandchildren, his parents and many relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 17, 2021 at 10 a.m., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, 30522 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688. Zoom broadcast link http://tinyurl.com/carey-penrod
