Betty Trynie Van Vliet, 81, passed away on Monday, May 5.

She was born in Winschoten, the Netherlands on April 17, 1933. She and her parents and sister immigrated to the US when Betty was just 13 years of age. Her first home was in Ripon, Ca.

Mrs. Van Vliet and her late husband Cor Van Vliet spent most of their lives raising their family and working the dairy farm in Escalon. Betty loved her Savior Jesus Christ, her husband, and all her children and grandchildren. The couple made a strong commitment to sending all six children to Ripon Christian Schools. Betty enjoyed serving her church and community, well known for her help hosting the Escalon Christian Reformed Church “Widow Birthday Luncheons.”

She was a Godly woman, and will be remembered for her vast love of music, cooking and sharing of recipes.

Survivors include her six children, Yetti (Allen) McKay of Modesto, Wilma (Dirk) Nieuwenhuis of Modesto, Pete (Peg) Van Vliet of Oakdale, Henry (Diana) Van Vliet of Modesto, Joann Van Vliet of Escalon, and Carl (Lori) Van Vliet of Escalon; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cor Van Vliet.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Deegan Funeral Chapel.

A visitation was held Friday, May 9 at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon. Burial was Saturday, May 10 at Burwood Cemetery and services followed at Escalon Christian Reformed Church.
