Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 23, 2020 at Graceful Living in Oakdale, her care home for the last six years.
Betty was born on March 20, 1931 to Fermin (Frank) and Mary Olarrea in Modesto, California. She lived her entire life in Stanislaus County. She was a homemaker, raising her children and enjoyed hosting family gatherings.
Once her children were grown, she decided to enter the work force. She worked at Harley’s Department Store, Oakdale Poultry and held a supervisory positon at Gambini Farms and Gold River Orchards from which she finally retired when she turned 77.
Besides Betty’s parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Leona Cackler, Lucille Knipe and Lois Phillips all from Modesto. She is survived by her children Linda Walther (Hal), Dan Lima (Carol) and Holly Lima, her granddaughter. She is also survived by extended family members who were important in her life: Chris Walther (Sarah), Darren Walther (Coby), Rick Phillips (Chris), Patricia Hutchinson (Monte), David Phillips (Betty), Debbie Bernhard (Allan) and their children.
Her family also wishes to thank Graceful Living for making Betty’s life so comfortable for the last six years. Not only did they care for Betty, their love and support extended beyond her to her family. Voica: thank you for having an excellent staff to care for all of her needs and for providing a beautiful home for her to live in. You and your staff were there step by step to guide us through this journey. Thank you to the caregivers for everything that you do. Words cannot express the gratitude and respect we have for you. Alma, as we have told you many times, you are a guardian angel. The family also wishes to acknowledge Seva Hospice. Even though Betty was under your care for a very short period of time, we will be forever grateful for the care and support given to her and her family.
In respect to Betty’s wishes there will be no service. The family requests, with gratitude, that remembrances in Betty’s name be made to Seva Hospice, 2813 Coffee Road Building C-1, Modesto, CA 95355.
