August ‘Augie’ Panelli, 76, died Monday, Nov. 15.

He was born in San Francisco and lived there for 50 years. He lived in Oakdale for 26 years.

He attended Balboa High School and San Mateo Junior College where he took business classes.

Mr. Panelli was a truck driver and was a reserve police officer in the Bay Area before joining the Coast Guard. After four years, he joined the Army Reserves. After having two sons, he began working for Ford Motor Company and was with the company for more than 15 years.

He also started his own business, Laska Kennels, raising working sled dogs that he had been with in Alaska while doing air sea rescue. When he turned 50, he retired from being the general manager of S&C Ford in the Bay Area and moved Laska Kennels to Oakdale. Then he and his son Ron opened Oakdale PET Station in 1986. He showed and trained dogs, and was also an AKC judge.

He was a member of the Elks Club and The Sons of Italy.

He loved children, dogs, cars, helping charities, and playing pool.

He is survived by his sons, Ray Panelli of Las Vegas, Ron Panelli of Oakdale, Jason Ramono of Santa Clara; daughter-in-law, Angie (Morgan) Panelli; and step-grandchildren, Brandon and Samantha Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa ‘Terry’ Pulliam and Ray Pulliam.

Interment will be at the Italian Cemetery, Colma.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Oakdale Pet Alliance/Friends of the Shelter.
