Anthony (Tony) L. Mello, 81, died Aug. 27, 2014surrounded by his family at home.
Born in Gustine on April 10, 1933, he was first employed with FW Woolworth in 1952 at the age of 16. By the age of 18 he became the assistant manager. He was moved to the Ventura store as manager and was later transferred to LeGrand, Oregon. He worked in many locations with the company. He returned to Modesto with his family in 1960. He worked in management for a number of companies including Big R, Country Clothing, American Boot Company and Oakdale Feed and Seed. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the Azores, Portugal and enjoyed his time spent with his three dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Mello; two sons, Curtis and Doug Mello of Modesto; grandsons, Ryan Pimley, Cory Mello of Oakdale, Cody and Cali Mello of Modesto; and great granddaughter Katie Pimley of Oakdale.
He was preceded in death by his children Stephen Mello and Sherri Mello Pimley.
Memorial services were held.
