Anna Vander Meulen, 99, passed away peacefully in Bethany Home in Ripon on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.
She was born in Woubrugge, the Netherlands on June 22, 1920, to William and Anna Van Dam. In 1930, her family immigrated to America and settled in El Monte, California. She married Gus Vander Meulen in 1942, and together they began dairy farming. Five years later, they relocated to the Escalon area, which became home for the remainder of their 59 years together. In addition to their dairy business, Anna was a homemaker who enjoyed being involved in family, church, and school activities. She was a charter member of the Escalon Christian Reformed Church. She will be remembered for her fun spirit, her ready smile, and her hospitality. Anna’s love for her husband, family, friends, and her devotion to the Lord, were evident to all.
Survivors include her sister, Irene Klein of Arizona; seven children and their spouses: Anna Jean (Ed) Prins, Pete (Edith) Vander Meulen, Bill (Joyce) Vander Meulen, John (Debby) Vander Meulen, Sue (Jasper) Van Vliet of Escalon, Caroline (Bill) Hoekstra of Oakdale, and Marlene (Ken) Van Staaveren of Fall River Mills; 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Vander Meulen, in 2001, and by her siblings Margie Van Leeuwen, Martinet Vanden Bosch, William, Henry, and Cor Van Dam.
Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Christian Reformed Church in Escalon. The burial was Friday, Oct. 5, at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon, followed by a Memorial Service at the Christian Reformed Church in Escalon.
