Valley Home News-Week of 2-11-15

This past week I had the opportunity to visit with a young man I hadn’t seen for a very long time. Seeing Cy Chrisman all grown up was a reminder to me of how quickly the years are going by. It’s always such a great pleasure for me when one of our Valley Home young folks drops by our home for a visit when home from college. The joy of seeing these young people as they go from elementary school to high school and now to college is such a true blessing! My visit with Cy came while attending our Valley Home 4-H Box Social last Tuesday evening. While Cy and I visited, I couldn’t help but think how proud his parents Jeff and Sally Chrisman must be of this wonderful young man! He is well spoken, caring, polite, is excited about his college education and on top of that he is a great game hunter! Cy, you make all of us in Valley Home very proud!

I try not to write too much about my own family, but because I am so proud of our Valley Home young people, and because this past week granddaughter Jenna Heaton made our family so very proud, I would like to share my excitement! Jenna made the President’s List at MJC. Notified by mail, Jenna opened the letter, smiled, took a few minutes to enjoy the contents, then quietly tucked the letter away. This grandmother is so proud that I just have to share this hard earned honor with those of you that know and care about Jenna! Jenna thank you for being a humble and grateful young woman. We are very proud of you!

Please remember, to those of you that have young people (or anyone at any age you are proud of) be sure to send a note to me so that our community can share these happy times.

Along these lines I would especially like to thank the teachers and staff at our Valley Home School, Jr. High and Oakdale High School for their dedication, their dynamic teaching skills and the strong work ethic they impart to our students. You are all greatly appreciated!

While attending our Valley Home Parent Teacher Club meeting it occurred to me (as it has many times) how important this group of caring people are to the success of our school. These folks take on the responsibility of raising much needed funds that go toward the extras every school needs but sometimes cannot afford. Listening to this group of already busy people, planning events and fundraisers I felt fortunate that my family lives in Valley Home.

To end this week’s column I would like to salute two very successful young Valley Home women. Alanna Jones and Brittany Koppinger both are former students of Valley Home School and have gone on to do amazing things. Alanna is a tremendous athlete and a highly regarded scholar. Brittany is a highly qualified, much respected school teacher. You both make us so proud!
