Valley Home members of the Oak Valley Art Society traveled to Escalon on Saturday to enjoy a very informative program by Robert Shatswell of Crownshield Photography in Oakdale on the use of digital cameras for capturing art subjects and the basics to be able to make use of our camera’s full potential. Members were invited to bring their own cameras to the meeting and were given insight in the best technique for getting the image they were striving for.

The Art society will be hosting its Fall Art Show at the Escalon Library on Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th and will also feature a division for photography art in addition to the regular art divisions. In addition to conventional photographs members are invited to enter digital/enhanced photographs also in the Photography Division. Painting show classes will feature Oil & Acrylic, Water Media, Soft Pastels, Graphics and Mixed Media.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Jenna Heaton who turned 14 on Sunday! Jenna spent the day celebrating in Santa Cruz! Her birthday got off to a great start when she was delivered a cake personalized just for her. The beautiful cake was made by our very own Vicki Soares, who has just recently started a new business making cakes, etc. Jenna loved her cake and really hated to cut it. Many Happy Returns of the Day Jenna from all your Valley Home friends!

Burglaries continue to plague our community. Another incident happened this past week on Lone Tree Road near the heart of Valley Home. The circumstances of this incident give us a clear message that this community’s residents must prepare themselves for these events and know what to do.

Two burglary suspects were involved in this event. They were noticed by a resident who secured a friend’s help and then made contact with the burglars. There was a scuffle and the suspects escaped in their car. They were followed by the two residents for a short time but eventually got away. What must change is that residents MUST get license plate numbers of suspect’s vehicles, get descriptions of suspects and any other information that is available. This must then be reported to the sheriff’s department. Without this information, our security forces cannot do much to stop this action.

Valley Home residents are reminded that the Oakdale Irrigation District is celebrating its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, September 26, 2009. There will be an open house and displays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gene Bianchi Community Center. In addition, there will be presentations by state and community officials at 11 a.m. Our community, then called Thalheim, was supplied irrigation water in the very early years by the District’s “Tulloch Water System.” Stop by and take a look at the photographs and other items on display. See how it was in the beginning. Help the OID celebrate its 100th Birthday.
