A group of our friends and neighbors from our Valley Home community traveled to Knights Ferry on Saturday to attend the fundraising dinner for 22 year old Ashley Bizzanelli. Ashley has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is currently at Stanford Hospital undergoing treatment. Ashley is the girlfriend of fireman and rural volunteer Alec Mederos. The group enjoyed visiting with friends from Knights Ferry and the special ambiance of the evening. The community center was packed with people who came from as far away as the Bay Area to support Ashley. Everyone is looking forward to the big celebration when Ashley returns home completely healthy!

Valley Home 4-H’ers were honored at their annual Awards Banquet and Potluck this past Wednesday. Lots of good food was enjoyed and special thanks to leader Scott Heaton for the great sideshow. A glitch with the lighting in the gym was overcome by the resourcefulness of the group. The projector was moved outside, and everyone gathered on the lawn and the show was shown on the side of the gymnasium building! A great way to enjoy a cool Valley Home evening!

Our Valley Home 4-H’ers have already moved on to their next big community service project, the annual Christmas Lighted Parade and dinner on December 10th. More details on this festive event coming soon. Start planning now for your parade entries!

Members of our Valley Home Park Committee were seen working to keep our Park looking good. Don Taro brought his lawn mower to the park via his cattle trailer, and got the lawn cut and looking great. Kathi Bryhni and son, Garret and Winnie and Richard Mullins were also spotted hard at work pulling and cleaning up weeds that had sprouted up around the base of plants and trees. A big thank you is also in order for Ralph Damante who came to the rescue and fixed and replaced a couple of lawn sprinklers that needed replacing. Our Park is looking great!

Thanks also go to members of the Oakdale Community Garden Club who improved the landscape along the fence in front of the gymnasium building with redwood bark beneath the shrubs donated by Knudsen Nursery several years ago.
