We are starting this week’s column off with an exciting news item that arrived too late to include in last week’s column. This news was sent to us by proud parents, Synthia and Dennis Jones. “The Salisbury, North Carolina Davis & Elkins softball team opened the 2011 season in strong fashion Friday afternoon, February 23rd, as they defeated Winston-Salem State University 11-3 in the Catawba College Tournament.” Her parents are delighted to share the exciting news that their daughter, Alanna, who is a freshman pitcher, recorded eight strikeouts in her college debut and allowed one earned run. Wow, what a great way to start the season! Valley Home is proud of you!

From everything we have heard from residents, Valley Home PTC’s Third Annual Bunko Night was GREAT! From the wonderful donations to the scrumptious meal and desserts, the reviews have been nothing but good. The Cope/Jones crew barbecued chicken and tri-tip that was served with all the fixings for a perfect Santa Maria BBQ meal. The meal was light yet filling and all the attendees were very satisfied.

PTC hosted a live auction on several items and what a great way to start off the evening with help from our very own High School FFA member Nick Moore auctioning, with Lindsey Giles and Sam Callahan as his assistants.

Thank you to all of our donors, assistants and staff that helped the Parent-Teacher’s Club’s Bunko Night run so smoothly. We would not be able to hold these events without your help and support.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended the event and helped to make the evening such a fun-filled and entertaining night. We look forward to having you back next year with some fun new ideas! If you have ideas that you would like to share, please E-mail the chairman at vhsptc@yahoo.com. She would love to hear your pros and cons so they can continue to make each year even better!

We have received word that our Valley Home 4-H Club members are to be congratulated for a delicious fund-raising dinner and auction on Saturday evening! Joe and Linda Perez were among the large crowd attending the event. The couple reports that they had a great time and tells us that the food was wonderful. Dinner consisted of BBQ chicken, salad, baked beans, roll and delicious dessert of sweetbread, cup cakes or rice pudding, and choice of coffee or lemonade. Yum!

The Silent Auction had lots of interesting items for guests to bid on. The dinner and auction proceeds will help to fund the 4-H club sponsored family fun trip to Disneyland in April and all club activities ranging from community potluck dinner, parade and many other club events. Club members offer a big thank you to all who helped to make the event so successful!
