The strong wind that we had on Saturday did some damage here in Valley Home and some residents were left without power which also lasted for part of the day on Sunday also before the lines were fixed.

The Valley Home School Parent Teacher Club (PTC) is seeking new officers for the 2011-2012 school year. This year’s Annual Jog-A-Thon is scheduled for Thursday, April 21st. We could use some help with the event. If you would like to be involved, E-mail us at vhsptc@yahoo.com and let us know what area you’d like to volunteer, Set-up, Lap Counter, Food Service or the Clean-up Crew. The Jog will start at 10:30 a.m. and all volunteers need to be there by 10:00 to help. If you are Set-up crew, please meet with us after drop off…right about 8:15 on the Pioneer Avenue campus! A BBQ lunch follows our Annual Jog-A-Thon and we will be serving lunch right at 11:30. Come over and join us for a fun afternoon together before we adjourn to Spring Break at 1 p.m. that afternoon.
Our students will be collecting Jog-A-Thon pledges starting next month, please help your school any way you can. Thank you for your continued support, we appreciate it all!

Valley Home residents need to be aware of door knocking by strangers. This reporter has received a report that just last Wednesday a resident living on Pioneer Ave. in the Freelove-Akers Road area had someone pounding on their door two or three times. It was about 8:00 p.m. and they chose to ignore it and called 911. On arrival of the Stanislaus County sheriff deputy they learned that this had also happened to another resident on Pioneer Ave. south of them who had also heard gunshots. No one has received a report that any suspect has been caught. Wednesday’s residents were lucky as they had recently heard that this had happened elsewhere and once you open the door, the person(s) force their way into the house and rob the occupants. This knowledge saved them from a bad experience and it can happen to you. If it does call 911 and notify our VH Safety Committee. The number will be in next week’s column.

Valley Home Leprechauns made an appearance at the Saturday meeting of the Oak Valley Art Society meeting held at the Escalon Public Library and wasted no time in getting to work bedecking the meeting room in Irish décor. Members of the club joined in the festivities which culminated with the installation of new club officers by well known artist and club member, Dorothy Girling. She also presented beautiful hand painted certificates she had created to both outgoing and incoming officers. A delicious pot luck luncheon was enjoyed by all to a soft background of familiar Irish music. The festivities ended with the installation of new officers by Dorothy, who will temporarily fill the position of secretary for the club, with Glenn Burghardt President, First Vice President Carol Earle, 2nd Vice President Donna Mac Arthur, Treasurer Theresa Bond, and Show Manager Evelyn Cooper.
