Our Valley Home area was host to one of the most beautiful almond blossom displays we have enjoyed for several years. Those trees on Pioneer Avenue near Highway 120 were exceptionally pretty and seemed to last the longest.

We have happy news for all our “old time” silent movies fans here in Valley Home. We have received word that we can look forward to another fun afternoon at the movies hosted by the Ladies Aid Society of St. Luke’s Church. It is not too early to grab a pen and mark your calendar for May 22nd, with show time starting at 3 p.m. Comedy will reign with Laurel and Hardy as our stars for an afternoon of fun! As most people know, the duo never did any full length movies in the silent era, just shorts. We will have the opportunity to enjoy four shorts, they are: “From Soup to Nuts” (1928), “Leave ‘Em Laughing” (1928), “That’s My Wife” (1929), and “Collars & Cuffs” (1926), the latter film is a rare film with Stan Laurel before he teamed up with Oliver Hardy.
What better way to enjoy the afternoon festivities than the opportunity to sit down with friends and neighbors following the movies than to retire to the church basement and enjoy refreshments of pie and ice cream, served with coffee or bottled water. Delicious homemade pie will be offered at $2.50 a slice, with homemade ice cream available as a topping. Just a reminder, that we have some of the best pie makers living here in Valley Home.
There is no fee charged for viewing the movies, however, a free-will donation is appreciated. Donations made at last year’s movies went to purchase new tables and chairs of which the church now has 12 new tables and 64 chairs. The group hopes to be able to purchase an additional 32 chairs to complete the set. Any other donation monies will help to complete our landscaping at the church.

Oakdale Garden Club members enjoyed an afternoon meeting on Tuesday featuring a luncheon with an Irish flavoring to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Decorations for the meeting also followed an Irish theme and “begorah!” the guest list contained two Leprechauns who are known to make their home in Valley Home. The special guest speaker for the meeting was Kevin Taelaar from the California Gold Olive Oil Company. Garden Club members were given an opportunity to taste samples of the oil and hear information on olive trees.

Valley Home members of the Valley Art Society will enjoy a visit from the same two Leprechauns that visited the Garden Club, at the Society’s meeting at the Escalon Library on this coming Saturday, March 19. Society members will enjoy a potluck luncheon with an Irish theme, followed with a brief business meeting and installation of new club officers. Valley Home’s Glenn Burghardt will be installed as the Society’s new president.

There will be a meeting of the Valley Home MAC this evening (Wednesday) at the Valley Home School library at 6:30 p.m. Community department reports and special orders of business are on the agenda. It will be an important meeting, plan to attend.
