We received word from Tammie Smith that our Valley Home 4-H’ers are currently all busy getting ready for the Stanislaus County Fair. Tammie reminds us that with the ending of the Oakdale Junior Livestock Boosters which helped purchase the market animals, many kids are without buyers for their animals at the Fair, this year. If anyone is interested in buying an animal or helping a 4H’er they should contact Tammie at 604-6942.

Thursday found Valley Home members of the Oakdale Garden Club among those helping to landscape the flag pole area at the Oakdale Post Office. The final step in beautifying the area will be the moving and placement of the Blue Star Memorial Plaque & Rock which the Club originally installed at the Oakdale Museum and History Center on F Street, to its new Post Office setting.
Sadly, while the Valley Home members of the Club were helping with the planting and landscaping of the flag pole area someone used their absence from their ranch to steal a full container of gas they had purchased earlier for their lawnmower and stored by their back gate along with two, 2 ft high pelican garden ornaments displayed on a patio table by their back entrance. The couple was only gone from their home for two hours so be aware that those sort of persons continue to prowl our area.

Those of us who live in Valley Home usually have advantages that many in our Oakdale area do not enjoy. One such advantage is being able to sit out in a comfortable setting in our back yards and enjoy the Annual 4th of July Fireworks held at Woodward Reservoir. Residents were treated again this year to a beautiful sparkling display of color without leaving home. How many people can do that from their own backyard?

Our Red Hatters members sashayed into Café Bravo in Oakdale today for their July meeting and luncheon looking great attired in all their gorgeous red and purple attire. And led by their elegantly attired, Queen Bonny Bianchi. Last month the ladies enjoyed a salad luncheon hosted by the Oakdale Garden and next month they will enjoy another change of pace with a luncheon at Minnie’s Chinese Restaurant located on Mc Henry in Modesto.

You will need to grab a pen and mark your calendar for a day of artistic fun and viewing at the “Art in the Park” festival which is being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Fruit Yard located at 7948 Yosemite Blvd in Modesto.
President Glenn Burghardt of the Oak Valley Art Society reported to the VH News that members of the group will be demonstrating, displaying and selling their original works of art. The Fruit Yard Park provides a beautiful setting in which to view and enjoy the artwork and find one that you may want for display at home. The plan is for twenty or more OVAS artists to fill the park with beauty. Visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite displayed art work which will receive the Public Choice Award and a cash prize. The admission to this event is free so you do not want to miss this opportunity for a great day.
