Valley Home residents began the New Year by welcoming in the new Superintendent/Principal for Valley Home School, Mrs. Rolanda Desrosiers-Lewis, to replace former Superintendent/Principal, Kevin Hart. The first official day for the new Principal began on Tuesday, January 3, as she welcomed the return of our Valley Home students from winter break. Mrs. Desrosiers-Lewis has the distinction of being the first woman to be placed as superintendent/principal for Valley Home School. Seventeen applications were submitted for that position out of which five applicants were selected to be interviewed, and of these three were selected for interviews on December 17th. On that day, the members of the school board made the decision to hire Mrs. Rolanda Desrosiers-Lewis for the position and we all offer her a warm welcome to our community.

We have received word that the Pancake Breakfast sponsored by our Valley Home PTC and held on January 7th in the Gym/MPR on the Pioneer Ave. campus was a delicious success. What a great way to bring in the new school year, great food and an opportunity to exchange events occurring during the school winter break. The event was well attended by school families and community members with lots of positive comments by all those attending. Michelle McKenzie, PTC treasurer, reports that it looks as though this was the most successful year for the event. Valley Home PTC offers a special thank you to all who attended and made this event possible. PTC president, Sheri Rathbun commented that her favorite part of the morning was seeing people stay after they had eaten to visit with one another.
We have received word that the first PTC meeting of the New Year was well attended and there was a lot of input and ideas on how to make the last part of the school year fun for our students. The group will begin with “Candygrams” this month, as well as an assembly and new creative ideas for our Jog-a-Thon in April.
If you haven’t already done so, be sure to circle March on your calendars and make plans to attend another fun evening of Bunco Night sponsored by our PTC. More information will be appearing soon in this column concerning that fun filled evening.

Received a report from Winnie & Richard Mullins that their granddaughter Jenna Heaton traveled to Phoenix last week to compete in the Arizona national livestock show with her meat goats and came away as the national winner in the Intermediate Showmanship Division! It was a very exciting win for Jenna and her first at a national show. The Arizona Nationals is the oldest show in the west and is one of the most prestigious livestock shows in the country with exhibitors coming from all over the country to compete.
