Valley Home ‘Green Thumbs’ were delighted to take advantage of this week’s sunny weather and warmer temperatures to get outside and enjoy a little garden work to work off some of the winter blahs. Your reporter remembers when her family first moved to Valley Home the area there seemed to be nothing but fog, fog, fog, causing her to lament to family members, “Doesn’t the sun ever shine here?” The past week’s foggy days brought back those memories, however the sunny days which followed quickly dispelled those thoughts and it was outside to enjoy a wonderful day in the garden!

Valley Home 4-H member’s spirits were also uplifted by the weather, and had a very successful Valentine Box Social at their meeting this week. Gunter Brisi was the auctioneer for the fun event and did a great job! This was the first year that the members auctioneered, ran auction items, recorded sales, receipts, decorated, cleaned up and kept the auction going for the entire night with very minimal adult help. Way to go 4-H’ers! There were so many comments from the parents and leaders about what a great job the members did this year!

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of one of our most beloved residents. Hans Boggs passed away on January 31st and for all who had the pleasure of knowing him, his loss is keenly felt. Born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, Hans was a long time resident of Valley Home. Hans was one of those special people who never met a stranger. He was always the champion for the underdog and the misguided. He inspired his family and those around him to live their lives in service and with dignity. Hans was an active and dedicated Master Mason, Past Master, two-time Hiram Award recipient as well as a devoted Shriner, reflective of his passion and commitment to community service.

Hans loved life and that love radiated to each and every person that had the good fortune to meet him. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife of 56 years, Agnes, and family members in their loss. Our hearts are with you and we share your loss.

We offer our sympathy to Betty Greger on the loss of her husband Gene Greger. Gene had many friends here in Valley Home to whom he delivered propane for many years. Gene owned Gene’s Gas Service, a local propane business in Oakdale and surrounding areas and was an active member of the Oakdale community for more than 67 years. We will all miss his friendly smile and warm greeting!
