The Valley Home Community Center board of directors had a meeting at the park last week to discuss the pending items for the community park and to discuss plans for the rest of the year. Present were Chairman Don Taro, Secretary/Treasurer Glenn Burghardt, and members Winnie Mullins and Ralph Damante. Member Roger Beymer was ill and missed the meeting.

Highest on the priority list that needed a quick remedy was to correct the problem that has troubled the board with keeping the night lighting of the American flag continuous. It was decided that a new unit was needed so one is on order and new wiring will be installed.

There was a discussion for a “home-coming” fundraiser in June and other planned seasonal fun events such as a Halloween party with the Valley Home 4-H group and the Christmas event. Members will be thinking of others as well. The next meeting will be devoted to the park grounds cleanup and planting for spring. An important item was the discussion on and passing of a motion on a budget for the year 2012.

Residents are invited to attend a local Author Fair at the Escalon Library on Saturday, February 25th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event is being hosted by the Friends of the Library and offers a wonderful opportunity to come and meet local authors of books for adults, teens and children. There will be authors of westerns, romance, fantasy, non-fiction and World War II autobiographies. Our Valley Home PTC member, Michelle McKenzie and local author will be on hand with copies of her recent children’s book. The event is free. While at the library, be sure to check out the ongoing used book sale. Proceeds from the book sale are used to fund library programs and materials.
