Valley Home News for August 17, 2011

We enjoyed a recent opportunity to meet and visit with W.C. Koch, a cousin of Cindy Fleischer, a former long time resident of our Valley Home community, who dropped by to bring us up to date on the Fleischer family activities. Cindy and Chuck now reside at Dardanelle, where she and Chuck own a grocery store, gas station and lodgings. The couple were always quite active in our Valley Home, especially with our community and Volunteer Firefighter activities before moving up to their current location.

W.C.  tells us of an earlier visit by he and his wife, to Cindy that took place earlier this summer, which proved exciting. W.C. likes to visit Cindy’s area and get in a little fishing or hunting in season, or just relaxation and visiting with his cousin. On this particular occasion, W.C. and his wife had retired for the night when his wife heard strange noises outside the cabin. She quickly woke W.C. who rushed out to investigate only to discover a very delighted “pet” bear enjoying a fruity feast of fresh picked peaches the Kochs had picked and brought especially for Cindy and forgot to bring inside the cabin. Alas, even though W.C. stands at 6’3”, the encounter score would be one box of delicious peaches for determined hungry bear, one (no contest!) and former Koch’s boxed peaches slated for Cindy 0. Did Cindy ever get an opportunity to enjoy fresh peaches from our Valley? Yes, on their next visit, the Koch’s replaced the lost box of fruit with no sign of bear interference!

W.C. tells us that the sound of wedding bells will be heard in the future for Cindy and Chuck’s son, Cody.

Artist, Janet Wilmeth who had to forego her mosaic art demonstration at the last Oak Valley Art Society meeting due to traffic difficulties in Escalon last month, will appear at this coming Saturday meeting at the Escalon Library. Janet will be demonstrating some of her creative works and will offer members an opportunity to create their own designs, which she will fire for them and bring back to the next meeting. Janet had some of her impressive work on display at the Art in the Park festivities hosted by the Club at the Fruit Yard last week.
