Autumn leaves crunched beneath our feet as we made our way to the annual Soup Luncheon and Craft Faire at St. Johns/St. Lukes church this past Saturday. One could not help but notice the peacefulness of mid-morning in Valley Home! The colors of fall were everywhere, the sweetness of the morning air, the joys of the coming holidays, the day already felt special as we entered the church and descended the ages old wooden stairs. Inside we were greeted warmly by Valley Home young people Halley Smith, Callie Chrisman, and Ben and Sam Fletcher. The Crafts Faire was absolutely delightful! An hour later with arms piled high with holiday purchases, we were more than ready for the yummy soup being served up in the church kitchen. The soup was absolutely divine, the homemade enchiladas perfect, and the desserts were heavenly. A truly great day to be a part of this special community!

Our pie fundraiser was a tremendous success. Thank you to all who purchased pies! This week school gets out at 12:30 p.m. each day for parent teacher conferences. Our school board meets this week ... more information on incoming board members in next week’s column. Valley Home 4-H president Sierra Haynes reminds us that the 4-Hers are working on Thanksgiving baskets this month and are making plans for the community Christmas Potluck Dinner. The 4-Hers will provide turkey, ham, tri-tip, bread, holiday beverages, and table service. They invite the community to bring their favorite potluck dish to share. The 4-H will also be sponsoring the “Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree” at our community park! The fun will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th when the Old Fashioned Community Christmas Parade will begin its journey through downtown Valley Home. The Lighted Christmas Parade which is not sponsored by Valley Home 4-H, is a special community event where the entire community is encouraged to join in! The happy sounds of holiday laughter can be heard all through downtown as the parade makes its way through Valley Home! Immediately after the Old Fashioned Lighted Parade (and before dinner is served) everyone is encouraged to meet together at the little community Christmas tree in the park to enjoy singing Christmas Carols together (approximately 5 to 10 minutes) It is a special evening in Valley Home! All are invited!
