It was birthday time in Valley Home as Garret Lee celebrated his big day! Garret and his friends and family enjoyed an afternoon of indoor swimming at Modesto Aquatics this past Saturday. The seventh grader and his guests were treated to pizza following their afternoon in the heated pool. It was a wonderful birthday and we wish Garret many happy returns of his special day!

We also share a reminder about our Valley Home 4-H Box Social. This is such a fun event and is also a great fundraiser for our 4-Hers. 4-Hers will be auctioning off beautiful and tasty goodies. Usually there are Valentine gifts up for auction. Sometimes live fruit trees, rosebushes, and other assorted surprises are up for auction. We hope you will consider coming out on Tuesday, Feb. 3 and bidding at the auction! The auction will start at 7 p.m. in the school gym.

We end this week’s column with a nod to our Valley Home/Oakdale neighbor, the great bucking bull “Bushwacker.”

Bushwacker is the 2014 Bucking Bull of the Year. The great bull made a visit to Conlin’s Feed and Supply where folks of all ages were able to visit and have a picture with him! For some lucky folks Christmas morning brought special gifts under the tree. The great Bushwacker showed up under the tree in the form of beautiful black T-shirts with Bushwacker emblazoned across the back. I know in our house the shirts were a most favorite gift of all for some very devoted fans. If you look closely at the shirt and look at Bushwacker’s eyes, he’s definitely got a message to deliver! I am not sure if the message is “I’m not done yet” or if the message is “I’m proud to be a world champion and glad to be back home with the ladies!” Thank you Bushwacker for making us all proud!
