I hope you are each doing well; we definitely have had some crazy weather!

Speaking of the weather, Chief Benedix must have taught his grandsons, Cody Fleischer and Bryan Martin, to be really strong men, intelligent men, to be compassionate men … and to be men who are always willing to help those in need. Cody, Bryan and good friend Matt Wylie, who shares those same values, were called upon to do exactly that; help those in need. Mariposa County Public Works Director Shannon Hansen contracted a dozer to plow from Bower to Big Grizzly to reach three households which had been stuck for almost two weeks. It would be roughly 15 miles one way and be over 5,000 feet in elevation! According to Mariposa County District 2 Supervisor Shannon Poe, Cody – who had already dozed Upper Dogtown from Bondurant to Old Greeley Hill Road (on his own dime ) – was prepared. After dozing, he took his 1962 Land Cruiser, chained it up and reached the folks up there with a special delivery. They were followed by a Public Works truck up the mountain.

To say the Chief was proud is probably an understatement. Cody, his brother Bryan and friend Matt worked tirelessly to make sure they reached the folks that were snowed in; I am pretty sure Chief Benedix was riding shotgun and was right there with them. Chief Benedix had many, many of his own adventures in that beloved Land Cruiser. He’s smiling down from Heaven for sure.

Our neighbors in Knights Ferry have invited everyone to come up for “Civil War Days.” It’s very exciting to see this very special reenactment event return to the Ferry. Such a fun and historical time to see the hills come alive with the sounds of musket fire, cannons … to see the soldiers … the entire scene … it is absolutely amazing! Along with Civil War Days, there will be a delicious spaghetti dinner available for your eating pleasure. Civil War Days will be held on March 25 and March 26; battles will be Saturday at 1pm and 4pm and again on Sunday at 11am and 2 pm.

Civil War Days encampments are in the Knights Ferry Recreation Area with the battles up on the hill near the beautiful old Covered Bridge.
