Our Valley Home community welcomes South Dakota and Minnesota Hi 4-H exchange students Delani Jorgensen and Jared Hillard, along with Jared’s mother, Eldonna. The threesome are being hosted by Valley Home 4-H members, Tiffany and Melissa Thompson and Jordan and Nathan Soares and their families during their stay here in our community. We are told that 25 students and chaperones will be staying throughout Stanislaus County during the weeklong exchange. During their time here the students will be visiting such places as Yosemite, Sea Cliff Beach and San Francisco. This is another example of how 4-H provides wonderful opportunities for children to learn and share wonderful new experiences. How nice to be able to welcome all these young people and their families to our Valley Home area.

Tuesday found our Valley Home members of the Oakdale Garden Club, Beverly Berridge, Gloria Medeiros, and Glenn and Laura Burghardt joining with the rest of the club members to host the Garden Club’s Annual Salad Bar Luncheon, Raffle, Silent Auction and Plant Sale held at the Gene Bianchi Community Center in Oakdale on Tuesday. Nearly 300 people turned out for the event to enjoy an afternoon of delicious salads, visiting with friends and the fun of bidding against each other for one or more garden treasures, plants, statues, and baskets of gardening goodies such as garden books, tools and ornaments, etc.

Our Valley Home Red Hat Queen Mum, Bonny Bianchi was seen holding court over three tables seating eight members each at the luncheon. Did our eyes deceive us or were there two gentlemen sporting red hats also seated with the group?

Guests enjoyed a selection of delicious salads, rolls and choice of coffee or punch seated at tables covered with floral clothes and centered with clear glass vases filled with a variety of colorful flowers gathered from garden club member’s homes. This was your reporter’s 35th year of involvement in the garden club’s annual salad bar luncheon.

A reminder that these MAC meetings are important to those interested in Valley Home happenings as representatives from various county agencies will make a report on the activities in their department – Sheriff, Animal Services, Public Works, etc. In addition, representatives from the Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District, California Highway Patrol and the Valley Home Community Center will also make presentations. An interested resident of Valley Home will not want to miss this meeting.
