Don’t forget to circle this coming Thursday, May 6, and plan to attend Valley Home School PTC’s annual meeting at 3 p.m. Come and join the group as they plan to vote in new officers for the 2010-2011 school year! Suggestions for activities and fundraisers for the coming school year are always welcome. This group does so much in providing activities to benefit our students during the year. The meeting will be held in Mrs. Moore’s classroom.
PTC members will host a Barbecue for all to share on Thursday, May 20, the last day of school. Be sure to circle the date on your calendar and plan to attend. The event is always a grand event for all and a wonderful send off to summer vacation.

If you noticed an absence of Red Hats here in Valley Home today, May 5, it is because the ladies are all enjoying an outing and luncheon meeting with Queen Bonny Bianchi at Marie Callendar’s in Modesto.

Valley Home members of the Oakdale Garden Club are all busy tending to the plants they have potted during the past months to be sold at their booth at The Farmer’s Market in Oakdale. The group will also have educational exhibits on display at their plant booth and will offer helpful hints on planting, etc. The Farmer’s Market will be open every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Second Avenue between E and F streets for the summer beginning May 27.

Everyone was happy to see Wallace Barnhill at the Silent Movie show hosted by St. John’s Church on April 24, looking good after his recent illness.

The Silent Movie showing of Seven Chances, starring Buster Keaton was enjoyed by all and the event provided a great opportunity to enjoy delicious pie and ice cream following the film and a visit with Valley Home friends and neighbors. Among those helping to serve delicious homemade ice cream and pie following the film were Sharon Hofmann and Audrey Rinna and several young people who did a super job serving coffee to go with the pie. Former Valley Home residents, Chuck and Carol DeVito and Christina who was a member of the Valley Home Girl Scout troop several years ago led by your reporter, enjoyed refreshments and the opportunity to visit with friends and former neighbors. Glenn and Laura Burghardt enjoyed an opportunity to talk a little local history with Al Fahey. Frank and Marilyn Clark stopped by the table to say how much they enjoyed the movie. Gene Benedix was also seen among the crowd enjoying the movie and also Hilda Hitchcock. Hilda is currently involved in a project to locate the name of the ship she came to the U.S. on to add to her family history.

A report has been received from the Valley Home Community Center board that work will soon be able to move ahead again on the community center park project as better weather is forecast. The heavy rain season has caused a delay in the work but it looks like the installation of the cement floor of the pavilion area is not far off. The board wants to thank the Valley Home residents for their patience on this wonderful project.
