Our Escalon neighbors, P and L Concrete & Garden Center, have announced that they will soon be shutting down the Garden Center ... all other operations will remain open; open and ready to continue serving our area’s needs. It is with a very heavy heart that they have had to make this announcement. Their message to their loyal customers and dear friends shared how hard this decision has been to make. They deeply appreciate each of you! Your patronage, and your friendship over the years has always been the backbone of the business. The Garden Center is a place that has provided so much beauty for so many of us. Loyal and hardworking employees have made sure over the years that the Garden Center was always well stocked with the most beautiful items. Fountains, with peaceful running water, statues with trickling waterfalls soothed your spirit. The Garden Center was such a welcome place to visit on a hot summer day! I remember the calm, the peacefulness that walking among the beautiful plants and waterfalls brought. P and L Garden Center owners have always had a very special and close relationship with their nursery employees; employees that are like family with many having been there for 20 years or more. It is with very bittersweet and many, many cherished memories that P and L share this news with our communities.

I personally would like to offer my most sincere appreciation to the caring folks at P and L Concrete and Garden Center. Our Escalon, Valley Home, and surrounding communities will miss the beautiful Garden Center, we look forward to the continuation of great service from our friends at P and L Concrete!

This week we also send congratulations to two Valley Home young people. Charley Airola has received a Stanislaus County Fair Merit Award for both Fine Arts and Horticulture. We also congratulate Leon Airola, who received the only Anita Hill Award given out for one of his woodworking projects. The two talented siblings would like to thank their Sierra 4-H Leader, Gina Bruedele, and all the leaders and parents who have supported and helped them during their 4-H years!

In this week’s column we share the beauty of fall as shared by our dear friend Christine Mendes. Chris lives in a most beautiful part of our area ... an area where the rustic colors of the falling leaves can be enjoyed from her front yard to her back pasture! We take this time to remember Christine’s much-loved brother; a very special man, Rick Adams. Rick, you are deeply missed and forever loved by all of us.
